There is a little bit of age under the obverse pommel, but for the most part of the the plating is intact. The obverse has a frosted panel with 100% frosting. The long style blade has a wide fuller design. The original leather blade buffer is in place. This is only the second or third I've ever had of this type in many years. The blade is mirror bright and has a perfect nickel-plated finish. They are retained by a pair of steel rivets with dressed obverse heads. Attached to the frog is an Army NCO's troddel. The finish shows some minor usage and just a little bit of age here and there but overall the nickel plating is still all in place. German 4ASW Bayonet a-x . The scabbard is straight throughout and has very good paint; it is nearly mint on the obverse and has only a few signs of wear on the reverse. The grip plates are in perfect condition, being black checkered Bakelite retained by nickel rivets with dressed obverse heads. The etching has been done with acid and on the obverse is the name and rank of this enlisted man, "San.-Uffz. The original brown leather blade washer is in place. It remains wickedly sharp. The reverse ricasso is stamped with the Eickhorn "Double Oval" trademark used from 1933 to 1935, featuring the seated squirrel holding a nut and having a serrated tail. Inside is a seated squirrel grasping a nut in his paws and having a serrated tail. The hilt still have all of the nickel plating, which shows some age but remains basically intact. The nickel plated hilt of this bayonet is in nice condition, having only a few failings where it shows wear on the upper edges as well as around the pommel beak. There is only one or two minor scratches and just the slightest bit of peel in the vicinity of the lock. German WWII 98K Bayonet Leather Frog with Securing Loop. The grip plates are in excellent condition, retained by the offset nickel plated rivet and spanner method used by Pack. An outstanding example. There has been a circular style etching to go around the name and rank and it is unique and nicely done. This plating has never been cleaned, so it has a dull nickel look to it. It features a very long, open winged eagle with squared off wings, clutching a wreathed swastika; the bird is very Art Deco looking. The ricasso area of both sides has a little bit of lifting to the plating but it is not bad. The scabbard is straight throughout. There is also a little "tap-tap" on the slot area of the spine. The reverse of the blade is also bright but there is more signs of lifting on the reverse running from the ricasso up to about the half-way point. The man's name is beautifully etched into the center of the blade and the backgrounds have been gilded. The obverse displays the "neutral" pattern featuring fine frosted backgrounds with an open wing eagle in the center. The original owner or a friend of his personalized this blade with some pretty nice etching. This frog is in good condition. The scabbard has a fairly large ding towards the bottom of both sides. The nasty looking saw-back edge is very thick, basically the same size as that used on a Red Cross EM Hewer. The original red felt is in place showing a couple of minor moth tracks but no real damage. This scabbard has 100% of the original paint, and only shows the most mild of attic crazing. The blade shows some age, but overall it is still in excellent condition. ORIGINAL WW2 K98 BAYONET SCABBARD MADE BY WKC IN 1939. Hard to find pre-WW1 era manufacture M1905 bayonet dated 1909; arsenal-reconditioned during WW2 and fitted with new plastic handle grips and a more durable composition scabbard. This blade has a narrow fuller, a stepped end, and bright nickel plating that is nearly mint. It looks rather nice, and appears to have been done someone who knew what they were doing as there is no "orange peel" in the finish. The bayonet offered another fighting option for the soldier. The Type 30 were introduced in 1897 and it was this bayonet design that would plagued the American Troopers during WWII. To the left of the four line dedication is a helmet with a visible National Insignia, and on the right is an open-winged Army eagle, looking to the viewer’s left and clutching a wreathed swastika.
